Rites of Passage
What are Rites of Passage and why do we need them?
In indigenous and pagan cultures, Rites were an integral part of experiencing the human journey.
Life is not linear and the way to experiencing it again as a cycle, is through rediscovering those Rites.
The way our life goes in the simplified way is Birth, Parenthood, Age, Death.
Inbetween we count our years and judge each other and ourselves by the number we had on the last cake.
The bigger the number, the older we should feel. But the reality is that we go from one stage of life to another! Each phase has its particular qualities and challenges. To mark a moment in a transition and make it real, to access the potential and wisdom of a particular phase, this is a Rite of Passage.
And Rites are powerful!
They are powerful because they create a connection beyond the linear life experience of an individual.
The collective experience of different stages of life as well as the cycles of nature can come to the forefront again and allow us to put our feelings into context, dismantle our inner critique, that we might not even be aware of.
We become part again of the rhythm of God, which allows us to leave our personal small or big dramas behind with more ease and feel like we are part of something bigger again.
It is deeply healing for our soul.
